Welcome to Reglan 411
In February of 2009, the FDA issued a Black Box Warning (the strongest warning the FDA can issue) on the drug Reglan. The drug is used to treat acid reflux and gastroesophagel reflux disease by increasing contractionsin in the digestive system, causing food to pass through the system faster. Reglan is also known as Maxolon, Octamide or metoclopramide hydrochloride.
The FDA has warned that patients who take Reglan are at severe risk of developing tardive dyskinesia, a central nervous system disease that can cause involuntary movements of the face, mouth, jaw, neck and even the torso. At this time a treatment for the disorder is not known.
